Heading into the 2025 NFL season, writers across the country generally view the Detroit Lions as one of the league’s top five teams, but not without some skepticism.

In the first wave of Week 1 power rankings, outlets have placed the Lions as high as No. 3 and as low as No. 9, with a mix in between.

Detroit’s talent on both sides of the ball has earned respect, but the loss of two coordinators -- Ben Johnson to the Chicago Bears and Aaron Glenn to the New York Jets -- has fueled doubts about whether the team can sustain its 2024 success.

Adding to the challenge is one of the league’s toughest schedules, starting with a division showdown at Lambeau Field against the Green Bay Packers, who just added star pass rusher Micah Parsons.
