LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A woman is dead after a late-night shooting in downtown Louisville on Labor Day.
Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) said the shooting happened just before 10:30 p.m. in the 700 block of South Brook Street near Broadway.
According to a preliminary investigation, LMPD said officers at the scene found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately began rendering aid until EMS could arrive.
The woman was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital, however she died shortly after arriving.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later identified her as 36-year-old Ashley June Lanham.
LMPD's Homicide Unit is handling the investigation.
Detectives are working to learn what led up to the shooting and a possible motive, but there are no known suspects at this time.
