BENNINGTON – The Select Board recently voted to accept and sign resolutions in the settlements of two opioid lawsuits.
One was to accept the bankruptcy plan and settlement against the Sackler family and Purdue Pharma. The other was to accept a settlement with eight other opioid manufacturers.
The combined amount the town is to receive, to be distributed over a period of years, but is not guaranteed, is $85,389. The money must be spent on opioid use prevention and will be kept in a reserve fund until the Select Board decides how to use it.
Acting town manager Dan Monks said the town elected to join the litigation against the opioid manufacturers.
