NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – New Mexico is working with a military research agency to make the state a key player in quantum technology. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed an agreement with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or DARPA, to establish the Quantum Frontier Project. Experts believe quantum technology can make computers more powerful.

Under the agreement, DARPA and the state will provide $60 million each to expand quantum research and infrastructure. "DARPA doesn't know if, or even more importantly, how, quantum computing is going to change the world. But DARPA and the state of new Mexico together are going to find out the answers to those questions," said Joe Altepeter, program manager, Quantum Benchmarking Initiative, DARPA.
