LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Nebraska Legislature Urban Affairs Committee will hold an interim hearing to discuss any potential building code issues in the proposed ICE detention facility that will take over the Work Ethic Camp in McCook.
Senator Terrell McKinney made the announcement on Tuesday, saying the interim hearing for LR 148 will take place on Sept. 12 at 9 a.m. in room 1507 of the Nebraska State Capitol.
Gov. Jim Pillen shared plans in August to turn the WEC into an ICE detention facility for people awaiting deportation and other immigration proceedings. The facility would hold up to 300 detainees who are minimal to low risk.
