ROSELAND, La. —

The Environmental Protection Agency is continuing to clean up after the explosion at Smitty's Supply in Roseland.

Crews have been using equipment including containment boom, skimmers, and vacuum trucks to contain and remove recoverable contamination from the Tangipahoa River and any nearby ditches and ponds. Advertisement

As of Tuesday, Aug. 2, over 2.15 million gallons of material mixed with water have been recovered and stored in frac tanks for off-site disposal.

According to the EPA, more than 20,000 feet of containment boom has been laid.

The EPA also stated no containment material from the fire has reached Lake

Pontchartrain and the boom is laid across the river south of the last visible material to ensure it does not migrate to the lake.
