But the Crown says “hope is not enough.”
Hill, 27, will find out later this fall if his sentence for a random, violent knife attack through a north London neighbourhood, which led to the death of a Toronto-area pastor, will lead to an indeterminate prison sentence.
Final arguments at Hill’s sentencing hearing concluded Tuesday morning before Ontario Court Justice George Orsini, who has been asked to decide whether Hill, once a promising young hockey player, should be designated a dangerous offender, as assistant Crown attorney Konrad de Koning argued.
But defence lawyer James Zegers asked Orsini to sentence the troubled young man with a history of addiction and violence to a 12-year prison term.
