GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — In Guntersville, the race for mayor couldn’t get any tighter.

Incumbent Mayor Leigh Dollar and challenger Jeff McLaughlin both stand at 1,065 votes.

"This tie shows that every vote counts, so it's so important for everybody to go exercise their right to vote," Dollar said.

After the remaining seven provisional ballots were counted in a council meeting last week, the city was preparing for a runoff, but that was until they started reviewing some legal matters and realized it wasn’t clear.

"It really doesn't tell you what to do, so I expect you will see legislative action in the future to clarify that," Dollar said.
