BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) - The Emergency Management Division is asking the public for their input on hazard mitigation efforts as the peak of hurricane season nears.

Emergency Management director Will Rochester says it's important to reduce the impact. That comes with solid preparation, response after the fact, and being on the same page as the community.

"We're working on our mitigation plan, working on the update," Rochester said. "We want to hear from the public on what are their concerns when it comes to threats, hazards and risks, as well as mitigation actions. We know that flooding is a big concern, but are there areas that we're missing, are there areas we need to see? Are there areas where flooding is a problem where it used to not be a problem 10 years ago?"
