RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WSMV) - Rutherford County Schools launched new weapons detection systems districtwide Monday. While some students faced long lines at middle and high schools, most parents said the added security is worth the wait.

At Blackman Middle School and Riverdale High School, parents sent us videos of their children waiting in long lines that spilled into the parking lots.

“When everybody gets there at one time, there’s a lot of long lines and kind of processing all the kids at one time at that point,” said Rutherford County Schools parent Dennis Perry.

Elementary schools seemed to fare better, with parents saying their students walked straight through.

“She went right through the devices and it was smooth after that,” said parent Mariah Phillips.
