WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — The Navajo Nation is preparing to welcome tens of thousands of visitors for its biggest event of the year: the 77th annual Navajo Nation Fair.
Recognized as one of the largest American Indian fairs in North America, the event draws about 100,000 visitors each year to Window Rock, the capital of the Navajo Nation. Carnival rides are already being set up, but organizers say the fair is about much more than games and lights.
It’s a celebration of tradition, competition, and food. One of the most popular dishes on the fairgrounds is steamed corn stew and fry bread. There are also classic fair staples such as giant turkey legs, funnel cake, and curly fries.
The week is filled with activities for all ages. Wednesday is Kids’ Day and will feature a "baby contest." Wednes
