WESTFIELD — Each year, dozens of dogs and cats arrive at the city’s animal shelter, and while most have simply been lost by their owners and others are strays, every now and then a homeless pet arrives that has been seriously injured or suffering from various ailments that need immediate and expensive medical treatment.

When it happens, someone must pay the veterinarian bills, which is when the Westfield Animal Shelter Heroes step in.
