A weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire as downpours are set to hit the region.

The yellow Met Office alert comes into effect at 12pm today (Wednesday, September 3) and will last until 9pm tonight.

It encompasses the entirety of the north-east and is localised to just our region, ending just before Dundee and Elgin.

Residents have been warned that "heavy rain may lead to flooding and travel disruption in a few places" with the rain to become "increasingly persistent" as the day continues.
