In the earliest days of Bemidji, when our town was little more than a post office, a store and six homes, a group of Benedictine nuns saw a need and responded.

They founded St. Anthony’s Hospital, known locally as “Lumberjack Hospital,” and began a legacy of care that has endured for more than a century.

That legacy has weathered fires, relocations, mergers and a pandemic. It has grown from a modest facility into a regional hub for health care. While the buildings and names have changed, the mission has not. We are here to care for our neighbors, generation after generation.

Today, rural health care faces a new era of transformation. Evolving regulations, changing care models and workforce dynamics are reshaping how services are delivered, especially in communities like ours.
