An 82-year-old man died Monday, nine days after he was wounded in an Adams County crash, authorities said.

Fred Stem, of Fairfield, was driving on the 1600 block of Waynesboro Pike in Fairfield when another vehicle crashed into the driver’s side of his vehicle around 3:45 p.m. on Aug. 23, according to the York County Coroner’s Office.

No other information was available about the crash or anyone else involved.

Stem was flown from the scene to WellSpan York Hospital, where he received treatment until he was pronounced dead at 9:15 a.m. on Monday.

An autopsy was performed Tuesday. The coroner’s office said Stem’s cause and manner of death are pending additional investigation.

Pennsylvania State Police from the Gettysburg barracks are investigating the crash.
