CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Corvallis Police Department has issued a statement clarifying its non-involvement in a federal immigration enforcement action that occurred on Wednesday morning.
According to the department, federal agents on about 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 3 took an individual into custody on NW Division Street. The department emphasized it had no prior knowledge of the operation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Oregon law prohibits local law enforcement from using public resources to support federal immigration enforcement. The Corvallis Law Enforcement Center does not house ICE detainees, nor does ICE operate from its facility.
The Corvallis Police Department remains committed to transparency and compliance with state law, police officials said.
