ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Fifteen people died in car accidents and thousands more were issued citations across Georgia on Labor Day weekend, according to law enforcement officials.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety (GDPS), which oversees the Georgia State Patrol, said the 15 died from Friday evening through Monday.
That’s down from 20 deaths during last year’s Labor Day weekend.
This year, most of the fatal crashes were in metro Atlanta.
One fatal crash happened in the Cartersville area, four were in Forsyth and Hall counties, and five were in Clayton and DeKalb counties.
Three more happened in the areas of Villa Rica, LaGrange and the city of Forsyth in Monroe County.
One fatal crash was reported near Rincon, and another was reported near Thomasville in south Georgia
