CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker met with community violence intervention leaders today as state and local officials prepare for expected federal deployments in Chicago.
The governor said Tuesday that ICE is preparing to move an armed strike team to Chicago, with staging currently underway at the Great Lakes Naval Station for an operation expected to last 30 days.
Pritzker mentioned that members of the Texas National Guard are on standby for deployment to Illinois should protests break out during ICE raids, though Texas Governor Greg Abbott denies this claim.
President Trump addressed the potential deployment of the National Guard to Chicago, stating, "But we could straighten out Chicago. All they have to do is ask us."
