NEW ORLEANS —

President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he is considering sending the National Guard to New Orleans to help in the overall fight against crime nationwide.

Gov. Jeff Landry announced that he would welcome troops to not only New Orleans, but also other major cities like Shreveport and Baton Rouge. Advertisement

WDSU Investigates dug into the crime statistics for New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport for this year so far compared to 2024.

According to Jeff Asher with AH Datalytics, crime trends show a decrease in all three cities year to year.

According to New Orleans crime data, overall crime in the city is down 21.5 percent compared to 2024.

Shreveport and Baton Rouge are also seeing a drop in crime.

From January to June, Shreveport has recorded 19 murders,
