The U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary issued a public letter, seemingly barring New Orleans Mayor Cantrell from working with the federal department.

The letter, posted by Secretary Scott Turner on X , is addressed to Cantrell. It reads, "The Department of Housing and Urban Development hereby notifies you of your immediate suspension from participation in procurement and no procurement transactions as a participant or principal with HUD."
