A site has been chosen for the new Australian Centre for Disease Control that will open its doors in Canberra next year.

The Canberra Times has confirmed the new statutory agency, due to commence operations on January 1, pending the passage of legislation introduced on Wednesday, will be based at an office in Aviation House in Woden.

The choice was made "after considering the future operational needs of the new statutory agency," a Health Department spokesperson told this masthead.

"Locating the Australian CDC in Canberra and close to the department will allow access to emergency infrastructure, department officials, and proximity to decision-makers."

Aviation House is across the road from the Health Department on Furzer St, Phillip.
