Secret documents and private emails have revealed how TikTok aggressively lobbied Communications Minister Anika Wells with offers of drinks, canapes, private meetings, and tickets to exclusive events in a bid to change Australia’s laws.

The series of emails, obtained through a lengthy freedom of information investigation by SkyNews.com.au, expose the extraordinary efforts lobbyists from Chinese-owned TikTok went to pressure Ms Wells into changing a flagship pre-election commitment.

It comes after SkyNews.com.au revealed TikTok was seeking to ensure a commercial competitor, YouTube, was not exempt from the social media ban for teens.

Within months, Ms Wells caved to those demands, broke the pre-election promise, and incorporated YouTube into the ban.
