OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) -- The Oakland Police Department is investigating an attempted armed robbery on Wednesday afternoon. According to OPD, the attempted robbery happened just before 3 p.m. at the FoodMaxx at 10950 International Blvd.

An armed security guard was approached by multiple armed masked individuals. OPD said these individuals demanded that the security guard put down their firearm.

Fearing for his life, the security guard shot in the direction of the suspects, Oakland police said. No one was struck by gunfire.

The suspects then got in a vehicle and left the area. Police said the individuals in the car were armed. OPD then attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect vehicle refused to comply and continued speeding. OPD did not chase the vehicle.
