HARTFORD, Conn. — The holidays came early, right after the Labor Day holiday weekend, for 50 kids at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hartford . The look on their faces, from 6 years old to 18, said it all.
“I never rode a bike before, so this will be my first time," Kayla Godlock said.
Something as seemingly simple as riding a bike is what many may take for granted, who were privileged to grow up with a bicycle in the garage and a sidewalk to ride it on.
But it was like Christmas morning for 18-year-old Godlock, an employee at the Boys and Girls Clubs and recipient of a donated bike, covering her mouth in disbelief at the row of 50 bikes that waited in front of her on the club's outdoor basketball court.
Now that she can touch her new bike, she just wonders what it will feel like riding
