Three quarters of British businesses did nothing to support charities last year.
The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) said just 25% of UK firms donated to charities in the form of time, cash or goods last year.
It suggests that firms should commit to donating at least 1% of pre-tax profits each year as best practice, and that charities would receive almost £5bn in additional funding if they did so.
The CAF's annual Corporate Giving report stated that British businesses donated an estimated £4.2bn in 2024 - a similar amount donated during 2023 - with nearly half given by FTSE 100 companies.
But this year’s report found that only 24 of the FTSE 100 gave at least 1% of their pre-tax profits to charity last year, down from 28 in the previous year.
