Rob Edwards believes Darragh Lenihan will be an important player for Middlesbrough this season if he can avoid injuries, after he made his long-awaited comeback against Sheffield United.

The defender came off the bench late in the victory at the Riverside before the start of the international break, making his first competitive appearance for Boro in almost two years. It followed a slight setback in pre-season, having previously looked strong in the early summer friendlies.

Edwards said of Lenihan’s return: “He’s a wonderful person. I really like him. He’s someone who’s going to be really important to us as well, so if we can keep him fit and available it'll be big for us.
