CLIFTON, New Jersey (WABC) -- A dump truck full of gravel overturned early Thursday morning in Clifton, New Jersey.

The gravel spilled all over the roadway creating a traffic mess for the morning commute at 5:45 a.m.

It happened at Route 3 east of Passaic Avenue. Traffic was being diverted off at Passaic Avenue.

By 11 a.m., one lane had reopened. It was expected to stay that way for several hours as the cleanup efforts continued.

On Wednesday, there was a spill of used cooking oil in the area. It is not yet known if that was a factor in Thursday's accident.

Route 46 is being used as an alternative for drivers.
