Officers are warning people to stay vigilant because poachers have been "very active" in the area. Over the weekend, poachers reportedly drove from Old Somerby down to , driving across farmland.

A silver Subaru VRM was seen in the area of Great Ponton, and is believed to have come from South Yorkshire. A coursing dog has also been reported lost in that area.

An update from the Lincolnshire Police Rural Crime Action Team states: " We should all be aware that the poaching fraternity, including hare coursers, are not looking to feed hungry families.

"They will use dogs at night, guided by a powerful lamp to pursue a hare, badger, fox and more often, deer. Driving across farmers' crops, damaging gates, fencing and hedges."

It continues: "They commit other offences whilst out and about.
