Two-time league MVP Elijah Andersen might have graduated, but that doesn’t mean it’s a new era of Woodland football.

Andersen was the driving force behind back-to-back 2A Greater St. Helens titles for the Beavers. But last year’s team also had a confidence and knack for winning close games, including three wins by 12 points or fewer in a 7-0 league season.

Woodland coach Glen Flanagan says that hasn’t changed.

“Winning, it just creates a whole different mindset,” Flanagan said. “Last year, we were 0-2 but we still had that mindset. They just feel like they’re going to win. I don’t know why, maybe they’re a bunch of goons.”

There are holes to fill. Every starter on last year’s defensive line has graduated and Woodland will have a new quarterback to take over for Andersen.
