OXFORD, Maine (WMTW) - A Lewiston man is accused of attacking a man in Oxford and then spraying the officers who tried to arrest him with bear spray.

The Oxford Police Department says an officer was called to King Street on Wednesday morning for a reported assault.

Officers say the victim was trying to leave for work when a man, later identified as Matthew Martin, 45, who was sitting in a chair at the end of the driveway, attacked him.

Police say Martin ran away but officers were able to track him to a home a short distance away.

Police say Martin was “obviously intoxicated and agitated” when they found him standing behind a parked vehicle.

When officers tried to talk with Martin, they say he walked toward them and pulled up his shirt, showing a large can of bear spray.
