ROCK CREEK — A veteran B.C. logger is fighting for the return of a $180,000 deposit he paid to the provincial government to access a timber lot that he did not harvest for lack of demand.
“I thought I would be able to market the wood. I’ve never had a problem in the past,” said 75 year-old Bill Bosovich, sitting inside his Rock Creek workshop as son Ryan and grandson Cole busy themselves with a grader outside, preparing it for sale.
In the spring of 2023, Bosovich struck a deal with B.C. Timber Sales to log 116 hectares of forest, 90 kilometres north of his small community on Highway 3 between Osoyoos and Midway.
The lots comprised mostly lodgepole pine, with balsam fir and spruce. Close to a third of the wood was damaged by mountain pine beetle.
Bosovich promised to pay the government
