BELMONT CRAGIN — Teresa Carteno was crossing the street to buy perfume last week when a driver hit her, sending her flying and breaking several bones.
On Aug. 28, Carteno, 62, was crossing at West Fullerton and North Mango avenues when a driver hit her after swerving to avoid traffic, the Carteno family said. She was severely injured, breaking her neck, spine, pelvis, one of her legs, a shoulder blade, an arm and some of her ribs, said her daughter, Lisette Carteno. She’s undergone two surgeries and needs more to address her injuries.
The 42-year-old driver was arrested and charged for operating an uninsured car, failing to yield to a pedestrian and driving on a revoked license, a department spokesperson said.
