Teams of traffic marshals will be deployed to sites around Manchester Airport at peak times after frustrated motorists were hit by long car park queues.

The Manchester Evening News reported scenes of 'absolute carnage' at the airport on Wednesday (September 3), with roads gridlocked and motorists claiming to have been stuck in car parks for 'an hour'.

Pictures shared on social media showed long queues to exit drop off car parks, with others showing congestion building around roundabouts along Outwood Lane and Domestic Approach, between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.

The airport said it was moving into one of the busiest periods of the year, with more people flocking to the airport for more affordable holidays now schools have returned.
