Millions of Americans will be diagnosed with cataracts in 2025, about three million of whom will undergo cataract replacement surgery annually.
News 9 spoke to Dr. Ralph Hester from the Dean McGee Eye Institute to learn more about cataracts, how to treat them and advances in medical technology regarding eye health.
What are cataracts?
Hester: Some people think it's a growth, and all a cataract is, it's just a clouding of your natural lens. When we're born, the lens is, of course, clear. Through the aging process, oxidative stress, it just turns yellow and cloudy with age.
