The Sampson Center, known locally as “The Block,” has been a cornerstone of Clinton for decades, long recognized as a gathering spot and a place where basketball dominated the scene. Now, the city is working to broaden the facility’s impact, expand programming, and make it more inclusive for all members of the community.

Clinton Parks and Recreation Director Garrett Bryant has seen firsthand the role recreation centers can play in shaping young people. Although not originally from Clinton, Bryant grew up playing basketball, and that early connection to sports drives his perspective on revitalizing the Sampson Center.
