Move over, Florida—one of the fastest-growing retirement destinations in America isn’t down south.

It’s actually right here in New York—just forty minutes north of NYC in Westchester County.

Mount Vernon, NY , has officially been named one of America’s fastest-growing retirement boomtowns , according to a new 2025 ranking from the personal finance site GOBankingRates .

The city ranked #29 nationwide , with its senior population (65+) growing 25% between 2018 and 2023 . Now a whopping 18.1% of the entire town is made up of retirees .

That means nearly one in five residents is now retirement age —well above the national average of 16.8%.
