BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Decades after Sergio Venegas raped her at the Red Lion Inn, a woman took the witness stand Thursday to testify about the horrific ordeal at Venegas' current trial on charges alleging he attempted to sexually assault another woman in 2022.

Venegas spent 30 years in prison for raping the woman. He was released in 2021.

On the evening of May 2, 2022, authorities say, Venegas grabbed a woman walking by herself on Ming Avenue and tried to sexually assault her at knifepoint.

She got away and called 911, and Venegas was arrested soon after.

Officers found Venegas in possession of an Apple Watch and other property belonging to the woman which she said was stolen during the attack.
