BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Bakersfield Police Department wants your input on its revised use of force policy.
The department hosted a community meeting on Sept. 4 to introduce the changes. It was an opportunity for Bakersfield residents to see what steps the police force has been taking to prevent incidents of excessive force.
After a brief presentation, attendees were broken into break-out groups where they could ask officers questions about the new policy and provide recommendations of their own.
"I remember when I was a small child it was that the police would shoot first, ask questions later and that has diametrically changed over the past few years," resident Tammy Reynolds said. "Ireally enjoyed hearing about the new policies and changes they've implemented."
