Two women are dead and a child has been hospitalized after a carjacking suspect fleeing a police pursuit slammed into another vehicle in Minneapolis Thursday morning.

The crash happened at around 8:40 a.m. at Olson Memorial Highway (Hwy. 55) and Penn Avenue in the Near North area, closing Highway 55 between Theodore Worth Parkway and North Morgan Avenue.

A car containing the two women and the child was struck by a suspect driving a black Volkswagen that had earlier been carjacked from south Minneapolis. Both women were pronounced dead at the scene, while the child was taken to North Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
