CARTERVILLE, Ill. (KFVS) - A southern Illinois man is accused of hitting a girl with a vehicle and then leaving the scene on Wednesday afternoon, September 3.

Joseph Uhls, 45, of Carterville, was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident causing great bodily harm. He was taken to the Williamson County Jail.

According to Carterville police, they responded to the 1000 block of South Division Street around 3:16 p.m.

They say a juvenile girl had multiple injuries. She was taken to a second location by ambulance and then airlifted to a St. Louis-area hospital.

Police say the driver, later identified as Uhls, left the scene but was quickly found by responding officers.
