The B.C. government has promised more than $50 million to buy land for two new francophone schools in the province, one of which is destined for the West Shore.

The province has earmarked $25 million to buy land for a new French-language school in the Royal Bay area of Colwood.

It has also reserved another $26 million for land in Abbotsford for a new French-language school in that community.

The two new schools will add to the 47 public francophone schools already operating in B.C., seven of which are located on Vancouver Island.

“Francophone families deserve schools that reflect and support their language and culture,” said Bowinn Ma, minister of infrastructure, in a statement Thursday.
