PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Oregon Department of Emergency Management is appealing the denial of federal aid following the March storm that caused destruction across four counties, officials announced.

In a release sent on Thursday, the department announced that Gov. Tina Kotek, acting through OEM, submitted an appeal to President Donald Trump requesting that he reconsider his denial of the Individual Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for the storm that damaged Coos, Curry, Douglas and Josephine counties.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and Trump declared a major disaster in the area in July, allowing Public Assistance for the affected counties; however, OEM reported that the denial of Individual Assistance left critical gaps in recovery.
