HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (WEVV) — Two schools were placed on lockdown in Hopkins County on Thursday morning following an incident that ended with one arrest.

Hopkins County Schools Superintendent Dr. Damon Fleming addressed families regarding a recent lockdown at Southside Elementary and South Hopkins Middle School.

The district said that Thursday morning, a person who "appeared to be in distress" was on Southside Elementary’s campus, prompting staff to initiate a lockdown. South Hopkins Middle School followed suit as a precaution.

An update from the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office says the person who was arrested was 37-year-old Carrie Gamblin, a parent with a student at the school.
