NEW ENGLAND, N.D. (KFYR) - The public is asked to avoid an area of the Cannonball River near New England following a chemical spill on Wednesday.
The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality (NDDEQ) says an undetermined quantity of diesel and about 200 gallons of herbicides were spilled into the water following an accident with a tractor and a sprayer.
Hettinger County Emergency Management quickly contained the spill, and the NDDEQ collected water samples for analysis.
The department says the public should avoid a one-mile radius of the site and not eat any fish from the area until further notice.
