SHAFTBURY – You do not have an extra year to pay your town property taxes.

“The day after I mailed the tax bills, an eagle-eyed person contacted my office and said, 'Do I really have an extra year to pay this bill?’” Treasurer Melanie Dexter said at Tuesday’s Select Board meeting. “Three people have noticed this and called me.”

The incorrect bills list the due date as 2026 instead of 2025.

“You have to look really, really carefully,” Dexter said. “So as a result of that, we're going to have to do a follow-up mailing with revised bills.”

“But my new plan for dealing with this is to print them all out on cheaper paper,” she added. “I don't think it needs to be the fancy paper this time.”

As people pay they will be removed from the new mailing. Property Taxes are Due on November 10, 2025
