WASHINGTON, Conn. (WFSB) - Fire crews say they have finally got a handle on a brush fire that’s been burning for days.

Local and state crews have been fighting the flames inside Steep Rock Preserve in the Town of Washington.

Steep Rock Preserve will remain closed through the weekend.

The fire started at about 1-2 acres and grew to about 24 acres.

Windy and dry weather has helped the brush fire grow.

With autumn on our doorstep, this is a reminder of how quickly and easily fire can spread this time of year.

Now that it is contained, town officials are hoping the limited rain that is in the forecast this weekend will help them put it out.

Local officials are warning residents about the recent weather conditions before they begin burning their yard trimmings.
