“These paintings were given to me by my uncle around 1985,” Libby Hrabonz wrote to the column about two pieces of art she was hoping to learn more about. “I know the artist is from California and I think my uncle bought the paintings from the artist. Both paintings are signed and dated. One is dated 1970 and the other is dated 1977.”

Executed in watercolor and pencil by artist David Halbach, Hrabonz brought both pieces to a recent appraisal session held at the Michigan Design Center in Troy. Brian Thomczek took a closer look in an effort to tell her more about the artist and give her a current value.
