An 8-year-old boy was injured Thursday after his mother ran over his leg while dropping him off at a Union Township elementary school for his first day.

The accident occurred shortly before 8:15 a.m. outside of Battle Hill Elementary School, said Capt. Pietro Digena of Union Township Police Department.

The boy suffered an ankle injury and was transported to Overlook Medical Center in Summit, Digena said.
