HOPKINS CO., Ky. (WFIE) - Health officials have released their findings after a Giardia outbreak spread to many people living in Hopkins County.

The health department says the investigation, which began in July, is considered closed.

Of the 131 cases reported, officials say 100 of them had an epidemiological link with the El Tapatio restaurant in Madisonville.

Of the other cases, 16 or 12.2% were sporadic or not linked to the restaurant, and 15 cases refused to interview or were lost in follow-up.

Health officials say it is not unusual to not find the exact cause of an outbreak, but there is a strong indication that the restaurant was a common source for the infection for over a month.
