MUSKEGON, Mich. — Two public meetings were held Thursday to discuss the proposal to get rid of a Muskegon campground. Fisherman's Landing would be replaced if the city's waterfront development plan is approved.

Campers and community members gathered at Fishermen’s Landing, pushing back on plans to eliminate the site.

“The campground, doesn't get a big voice within that, apart from the community coming in and speaking,” said Grand Rapids native, Ross Graveling who frequents the campgrounds.

Campers spoke up about what the waterfront space means to them — and what they stand to lose if it’s replaced.

“To think of this being taken away in some sort of way and the resource that it is, it's a huge asset to the community,” said Graveling.
